So far, so good September 9, 2010 john r. frost First of all, I just wanted to update the reviews for this product for the iPhone users out there. I upgraded to ios 4.1 today and Apple has FINALLY fixed the controls for use with AVCRP!!! All the controls now work for me with my iPhone 3GS.
Admittedly, I shouldn't be writing a review yet since I just got this today, but wanted to at least inform everyone about the iPhone update. That being said, and after spending WAY too much time reading all these reviews, I'll give MY initial impressions and will update my review if (and only if) I run into problems, otherwise you can assume I haven't had any problems with them. The fit is somewhat awkward. I keep finding myself wanting to push the ear pieces into my ear because it feels loose to me. However, I have been used to using the smaller earbuds for quite some time now, so I'm hoping that this is something I can overcome with a little usage and adjusting. As of right now, I've been sitting at my desk with the iPhone in my RIGHT pocket for about an hour and the only time they cut out on me is if I lean forward and the desk is over the phone in my pocket. Even then it was only for a second, if that. As I lean back in my chair the cord does push up a little and is somewhat awkward feeling.
I must say I am quite impressed with the sound quality so far. I did not have any expectations of a sound canceling device (nor have the desire to pay the premium for it). The volume does get pretty loud at full volume and I can't hear anyone around me in normal conversation or hear the TV 10' in front of me at about 50% volume. I don't have bionic ears, nor am I deaf. The sound levels and qualities are perfectly acceptable to me right now...hi-fi is something else I chose not to pay a premium for.
Controls aren't bad, but previous poster was right about accidentally hitting some while adjusting. I accept this is a limitation of the small form factor and will eventually work around. It just isn't that much of a deal breaker for me.
I probably won't post any comments on call quality. My sole intentions for this product are listening to music. I'm very serious about my workouts and want them to help drown out the distractions of everyone and everything around me. If I take a call, it will be just long enough to say, "I'll call you back when I finish working out." Speaking of working out, I'll be putting these things through their paces tomorrow when I hit the gym. I'll be doing a lot of lifting and running. I'm quite anxious to see how they hold up to sweat. I had the original Motorola S9's and went through 3 pairs of those because the sweat had ruined them. Didn't want to waste my time or money on the S9-HD's to find out that Motorola hadn't done anything to fix the problem. I do have a rather large head and neck and the cord length is acceptable. I do wish the cord was about an inch longer though.
After several years of searching for the perfect pair of BT headphones for the gym and I have high hopes for this unit and hope to have a more positive experience than a lot of the reviews I've read here. However, I don't know what the negative posters paid before, but in my opinion I think a lot of people are expecting perfection out of something that can be had for $40 now. As brutal as I am with my headphones, if I can a years use out of these things for $40...I would be happy! If all I did was use them at my desk or doing chores around the house and didn't get more than a year out of them, then I'd probably be a little pi$$ed. But for $40 you can't expect them to be waterproof, noise canceling, 5 Ghz wireless, hi-fi, ergonomic headphones. If that were the case...I'd buy 'em all up and sell them back to you for a couple hundred $$$$$'s. :)
UPDATE: Just noticed that the website does pitch noise canceling microphone, so I'll be testing that as well. I still don't expect miracles for $40 though.
As for sound quality, yes...I have noticed that if the bitrate of the recording is lower, then the volume is low and crappy. But that's a function of digital compression, not these headphones. The bass boost will suck if you use certain EQ settings. If you're having issues with sound, then I would suggest playing around with the EQ settings a little and try getting another copy of the song in a higher bit-rate.
Flexible, durable, great for those with glasses September 4, 2010 Gary Oppenhuis Flexible and durable, great for commuters. Soft rubberized design is very comfortable. Great for those that wear glasses, does not get in the way.
Occasional clipping of sound when turning head. Wish that lowest volume level could go lower (too loud at times).
Works great w/ 2nd gen iPod Touch September 4, 2010 Torrgoy O'Hare Apple's iPod Touch is a wonderful product, but it's audio jack is not so great. After 6 months of use, the copper contacts in the audio jack get worn out, which prevents any music from getting through. Consequently, one must replace the audio jack. After doing this twice over the course of a year and a half, I decided I had enough.
This is where the plantronics headphones come in.
I figured the fix around this is issue with wireless headphones. With these wireless headphones, I can forget about having to "cradle the iPod Touch" in a vain attempt to delay the inevitable and gradual warping of the copper contacts (not to mention shelling out $40 every 6 months...ugh!)
By the way, I must say, it's also real nice not being "leashed" to the iPod anymore. Having wires dangle around the neck and face gets annoying after prolonged usage, but wearing these, I sometimes forget I have them on til someone asks, "what are those headphones you're wearing?" or something along those lines.
By the way, I tried this with my cell and suprisingly, it works just fine.
However, when the police pull you over for wearing headphones while your driving, it's going to take some real strong talk to convince them that what your wearing are not headphones per se but that the device is a cell phone bluetooth device.
I recommmed saving yourself the trouble and wearing a single earpiece device while driving...
Hope my cursory review is helpful...
Travel BT August 30, 2010 CBiz I found this to be a very good product. I travel a lot for work and prefer to have equipment that is multi-functional as possible. This works very well for everyday conversations and for using both with my cell phone and IPOD when working out. The controls are also well designed. I can recommend this product.
Worked Great (one time) August 29, 2010 L. Arnold Chatterton I run. I do not expect my headphones to last forever because of this - they tend to get damp. But I dry and store when done. These worked great for my first run - connected perfectly with my ipod touch, fit well, sounded great. For my next run, they would not turn on - they charge fine, but I cannot now get the bluetooth portion to turn on or search. They're in the trash. If you never intend to sweat - these are great. If you do, you'll be doing like I am today, buying another brand.
